Monmouth, New Jersey - In May of 1778, General Clinton, took command of the British Army in America. As one of his first acts, he withdrew his army from Philadelphia and marched across New Jersey toward New York. The Continental Army followed and attacked the rear of Clinton's army at Monmouth Court House in Freehold, New Jersey on June 28, 1778.
Philadelphia Campaign, Pennsylvania - Chronicles the battles leading up to the British seizure of Philadelphia in 1777. This site covers the battles of Brandywine, Paoli, Germantown, and the Delaware River forts. Princeton, New Jersey - Following the victory at Trenton, the British engaged Washington at Trenton a second time on the 2d of January 1777. Washington slipped away during the night towards Princeton. In the early morning of 3 January he engaged 3 regiments under Lt. Col. Mawhood outside of Princeton and drove them back into town where they surrendered.
Saratoga, New York - Really two battles, one on September 19th, 1777, and a second on October 7th, 1777. Together they ended the British attempt to split the colonies along the barrier formed by the Hudson River-Champlain Valley. On October 17th, General Burgoyne surrendered his army to General Gates.
Trenton, New Jersey - Occurred early in the morning of December 26, 1776 following Washington's crossing of the Delaware River above Trenton, when the Continental Army attacked a brigade of Hessian troops in the barracks at Trenton.
Wyoming, Pennsylvania - Sometimes called the 'Wyoming massacre.' Fought July 3 & 4, 1778, between Continental soldiers from Connecticut, defending settlers in the Wyoming Valley (near present day Wilkes Barre), and Loyalist troops and their Indian allies.
