Ultrasonic Characterization of Materials

Ultrasonic Imaging - Ultrasonic Imaging with air sonar

Ultrasonic Inspection Simulation at SwRI - The multi-Gaussian beam model is an analytical solution of Gaussian wave propagation and it uses paraxial approximation. Such an analytical solution has made this beam model very computationally efficient. The MGB model can compute the propagation of ultrasound from planar or bi-cylindrically focused elliptical-element transducers. This model can also propagate ultrasound through curved interfaces in non-symmetry planes.

Ultrasonic Lamb-wave devices based on PZT thin films - A very thin suspended composite membrane along which acoustic waves are generated and detected, surrounded by a solid thick silicon frame, is the key component of a so called Lamb-wave sensor and/or actuator. The interdigital transducers patterned on the piezoelectric PZT layer allows the transformation of a voltage signal into a mechanical deformation and vice versa. Any external perturbations that induce a selective variation of the synchronous frequency can be investigated, e.g. temperature, pressure, added mass, electric field, shock, stress.

Ultrasonic Location System - AT&T Laboratories Cambridge

Ultrasonic Positioning - VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Machine Automation developed a method and device for determining position, based on the measurement of ultrasonic pseudorandom noise and its cross-correlation. With this method it is possible to implement an accurate positioning system in a limited area at low cost. The positioning method is best suited for indoor applications, e.g. industrial halls.

Ultrasonic Resonance Spectroscopy - Signals and Systems Group, Uppsala University Researchers: L. Ericsson, M. Gustafsson and T. Stepinski

Ultrasonic position measurement - The primary purpose of this thesis is to use several ultrasonic receivers and transmitters to implement a position measurement system. By combining range measurements from several receivers and knowing the position of the receivers relative to each other it is possible to use triangulation theory to implement the proposed position measurement system.
