Trinity College, University of Dublin: Department of Sociology - With the recent addition of a new chair in Sociology, Prof. Bob Holton, the Department at TCD is a thriving research community. University College Cork (UCC: NUIC): Department of Sociology - A large Department in the Republic's Second City. This is a very active department with a number of research centres. The site is reasonably attractive and well maintained.

University College, Dublin (UCD: NUID): Department of Sociology - One of the largest Departments in the country, this department is active in both research and teaching. active in both the Social Science Research Centre (SSRC) and the new Institute for the Study of Social Change (ISSC).

University of Limerick: Department of Government and Society - One of a number of Universities in Ireland to combine politics and sociology. The emphasis would seem to be leaning more towards the Politics side of things however.
