whatUseek Directory Site Listings:

Canadian Global Emissions Interpretation Centre - An emissions inventory service, providing input data to the scientific, industrial and policy-making communities for mathematical models. Description of the project, list of downloadable emissions data inventories, and registration form.

EarthRef.org - Multiple on-line chemical databases, including summary data on the geochemistry of all reservoirs in the Earth, partition coefficient data for all types of rocks and minerals and for every element, and a petrologic and chemical database of seafloor samples from a variety of tectonic environments. Also includes on-line modeling software, and a schedule of presentations and workshops by organization staff.

Emission Database for Global Atmospheric Research - Global inventories of direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions, including halocarbons. Data are available in tables and map summaries. Compiled compounds include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, non-methane volatile organic compounds, and chlorofluorocarbons. Registration is requested prior to accessing data.

GEOROC Geochemical Database - GEOROC (GEOchemistry of Rocks of the Oceans and Continents) is a searchable collection of more than 50,000 analyses from different tectonic settings. Queries can be made based on bibliography, tectonic setting, geography, chemistry, and petrography.

Geochemical Surveys in British Columbia - Geochemical databases from the BC Geological Survey, including data from lake sediment, till, and regional geochemical surveys.

Global Emissions Inventory Activity - Chemical emissions data on a one degree grid for the entire world. Most data are annual, seasonal, or monthly surface values, but some compounds have data for different altitudes. Data can be viewed on-line or downloaded.

Marine Minerals Bibliography and Geochemical Database - A computerized bibliography and geochemical database on offshore marine mineral deposits. Primarily contains chemical analyses of present-day marine deposits of ferromanganese nodules and crusts (more than 140,000 analyses), but also includes some data for heavy minerals (approximately 1400 analyses). Analyses can be downloaded from the website or ordered on a CD.

Ocean Sediment Core Carbon 14 Data Files - Compiled at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, these data include 974 carbon-14 dates from 309 worldwide ocean sediment cores, covering the period from 40,000 years ago to the present. Available as a download by FTP or browser.

PETROS Igneous Petrology Databank - A worldwide data bank of major element chemical analyses of igneous rocks. Includes 37,300 major element chemical analyses divided into 307 major groups representing geographic areas or petrologic provinces. Also includes 468 average igneous rock compositions, a bibliography of information sources, and complete format/operating instructions for PETROS.

Petrological Database of the Ocean Floor - Geochemical data from more than 30,000 ocean floor core samples around the world. On-line queries can be made by specifying location, expedition/cruise, sample characteristics, literature reference, or sought chemical value(s).

Petrological Databases - Two downloadable databases, provided by the International Union of Geological Sciences. The igneous database can be downloaded in ASCII form or as a Microsoft Access database; the sedimentary database can be downloaded only in Microsoft Access form. Both databases can also be accessed on-line via browser.

The Index to Marine Geological Seafloor Samples - Also known as the Curators' Database, this is a cooperative effort among nineteen oceanographic institutions and governmental agencies to provide information on the contents of their collections of seafloor samples to researchers. More than 100,000 samples can be searched on-line by specifying any combination of institution, cruise, ship, collection date, water depth, sampling technique, or geographic location.

Volcanic Glass Data File - Chemical compositions of glassy rinds from deep-sea volcanic samples in the Smithsonian Institution Sea-Floor Rock Collection. Descriptions of analytical methods, precision, and sorting and classification of analyses. Downloadable as an Excel file or a comma-delimited CSV file.
